JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, October 13, 2022/ — MultiChoice has established a cooperation with The Earthshot Prize for media broadcasting in order to promote and highlight the inventiveness and aspiration of scientists, activists, and innovators working to address the global climate catastrophe on the African continent.

Over the next ten years, the Earthshot Prize wants to identify scalable solutions to the major environmental issues facing the globe. Each of the five categories’ winners receives a grant of £1 million to expand their work as part of the Prize.

The cooperation intends to increase knowledge of The Earthshot Prize throughout Africa by assisting regional finalists, showcasing their creative solutions, and inspiring local communities to take on sustainability-related issues.

“As the top entertainment provider in Africa, we have a significant presence there, reaching 21.8 million households in 50 different nations. We are in a good position to contribute significantly to ensuring that Africa has a sustainable future. According to Imtiaz Patel, executive chairman of MultiChoice Group, “this partnership will enable us to not only educate communities about climate change, but to also inspire innovators to present their solutions, motivate other corporations to join the fight against climate change, and inspire governments to prioritize climate change as part of their national agendas.

The Earthshot Prize Global Alliance, a global network of nonprofit and multinational organizations dedicated to the environment and sustainable development, includes MultiChoice as a member.

The Global Alliance’s combined strength enables the Prize’s winners and finalists access to resources from a variety of industries and professions, including manufacturing, retail, supply chains, legal counsel, digital technology, corporate strategy, and government relations.

Every year for the next eight years, The Earthshot Prize will start a worldwide search for ground-breaking answers to the five Earthshot goals of Build a Waste-Free World, Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, and Fix Our Climate.

Sanergy (from Kenya), Reeddi Capsules (from Nigeria), and Pole Pole Foundation were the three African organizations chosen as finalists when the Earthshot Prize was originally introduced in 2021. (from the Democratic Republic of Congo).

The Prize aspires to inspire the world’s collective imagination to propel a collective mindset of urgent action on the issues surrounding the climate crisis by highlighting these innovators and their solutions.
