Chelsea’s highly regarded coach, Anthony Barry, is said to have wanted to quit the club to join Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich before of the Blues’ Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.
Following Tuchel’s arrival at Bayern, Chelsea coach Barry would like to join him at the Allianz, according to BILD. Chelsea is requesting compensation, according to the report, and the two clubs are now in talks.
In addition to his Chelsea responsibilities, Barry, 36, has taken on a part-time coaching role with the Portugal national team. Former head coach Frank Lampard brought him in at the Premier League giants. Tuchel was so satisfied with his coaching level and quality when working with him that he was eager to reconcile after obtaining the post at Bayern last week.
According to The Telegraph, the public recognition that Barry is a target for the German side has incensed the powers that be at Chelsea. Tuchel’s Bayern Munich team is believed to comprise Zsolt Low and Arno Michels, both of whom departed Chelsea at the same time as the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
Graham Potter, the current Chelsea manager, will not want any distractions ahead of this weekend’s league match against Villa, but he now faces the risk of losing a top coach from his backroom team. The Blues will meet Unai Emery’s side live on Sky Sports on Saturday, April 1 at 5:30 p.m.
Chelsea has won their last four games in all competitions, defeating Leeds United and Leicester City.
Villa are also unbeaten in their last four games, with victories over struggling sides Everton, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth.
