What Mauricio Pochettino has said on Tottenham return as pressure on Antonio Conte rises after 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa

After falling to Aston Estate 2-0 on Sunday, Tottenham was disappointed.

If Tottenham’s structural decline continues, they might soon be looking for a new manager to take Antonio Conte’s position.

The north Londoners struggled in their 2-0 loss to Aston Estate at home on Sunday, which came after another poor performance in their 2-2 tie with Brentford.

Allies are growing impatient with the bloated, slow-moving football on display, and the Prods players were completely booed off the field after rightly losing to Estate in their most memorable encounter at home since the World Cup.

It is still unclear whether Conte can make something happen, but if he is unable to, it might not surprise anyone if director Daniel Duty sets short-term goals for Mauricio Pochettino.

During his five-and-a-half year stay with Spikes between 2014 and 2019, the Argentinean gained immense fame, finishing in the top four regularly, and, shockingly, agreeing with his place in the Heroes League last in his final full season before agonizingly losing to Liverpool.

Given that the squad is currently appearing to be more fragile than the one he abandoned, some might question whether the 50-year-old would relish returning to work under Duty once more. However, when asked if he might be drawn in by a meaningful second stint at Tottenham,

“I miss the Premier League,” remarked Pochettino. Why not (go back to England to oversee)? We’re available. I adore living in Barcelona and London. I really adore England. Furthermore, it goes without saying that we will consider accepting it if the chance of returning materializes.

Pochettino has also been preoccupied with other things, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to the team, and has stated that he has no concerns about being fired by Spikes in 2019 and replaced by Jose Mourinho.

In a chat with Rio Ferdinand on BT Game, he said, “As far as I can tell, it was an extraordinary adventure, an astounding experience.

Actually, I think of it as my club and my space. Forgetting that, in my opinion, is unfathomable when you feel that you have a responsibility and that others are giving everything they have in an effort to reach enduring success.

“For this reason, I believe Tottenham will always be a special club for me.” A challenging-looking schedule of upcoming games for Conte’s squad does little to improve his team’s chances of surviving. After visiting Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Spurs will host League One team Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Cup.

But things truly start to get challenging after those first two games. The Lilywhites take on high-flying Arsenal in a match on

They then have another London derby against Fulham before playing the reverse fixture against City, and also play AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie not long after.

It is up for debate whether Conte will still be in the dugout by the time the Milan match rolls around, but if he does go then Pochettino will be one of the strong favourites to take his place in what would be a hugely poignant appointment.
