The Democratic Party (DP) has launched a campaign to draw the attention of the government to the Teso concerns.

The Democratic Party (DP) has begun a fresh campaign in Teso to draw attention to the region’s ongoing issues.

The party’s ‘Light the Torch’ campaign aims to bring government attention to situations that require immediate care.

The campaign was launched by DP president Norbert Mao on Tuesday during their weekly press conference, which was place in Soroti City this time.

According to Mao, the Teso region is facing five significant difficulties that the government should address.

“The Teso region faces five significant difficulties, which we want the government to address: overburdened health facilities, cattle rustling, a failing education system, and a lack of human resources,” Mao stated.

Mao also asked Teso’s important political figures to avoid ‘politicking and do the work’ in order to assist the people of Teso who had elected them as their representatives.

The DP is especially concerned about Teso schools’ poor performance following the announcement of the 2020 PLE, UCE, and UACE scores, according to Mao.

He asked the government to spend more money on the region’s teacher colleges.

“As DP, we have a quality education objective; by investing in teacher colleges, the government will have improved the human resource; we are really concerned about the education collapse in Teso,” Mao stated.

Because Teso is a significant transit route for travelers in the region, Mao stated that the new campaign on Teso will also strive to bring the government’s attention to devoting more cash to the region in order to shake off the consequences of COVID-19.

“We require a monitoring system, testing facilities to be established here for rapid testing, and most importantly, the government must invest in the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital,” Mao stated.

To preserve peace and stability in the region, Mao also wants the government to disarm livestock rustlers in the Karamoja region and its bordering regions.
