Church of Uganda celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Members of Parliament, led by Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, have pledged their support for the Church of Uganda (CoU), which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The MPs met with the Anglican Church’s leadership last week at a function held by Archbishop of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, at his home in Namirembe, Kampala.

The MPs addressed methods to assist the Church in various areas such as schools, churches, and construction projects throughout the conference.

Kaziimba urged the MPs to join and volunteer in various ministries in order to keep the Church afloat financially. Some Members of Parliament expressed concern that they had not been reached to support the church, prompting his statements.

“We have a Speaker that is willing to cooperate with us, so let us mobilize and collaborate,” Nathan Byanyima (NRM, Bukanga North) remarked.

MPs, like all Christians, are the church, according to Kazimba. He encouraged them to join boards and take on duties in a variety of areas.

“In western Uganda, I came across a government minister who was also a church warden. This was a fascinating read. When I watched him ushering people, I felt challenged. Let me encourage you, MPs, to stay involved in your neighborhoods, schools, and churches,” he added.

Kazimba expressed gratitude to the Speaker for donating Shs 100 million to the Church. Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister, contributed Shs 50 million, and Anita Among, the Deputy Speaker, contributed Shs 30 million.

Oulanyah pledged to engage with legislators to help both the Anglican Church and Parliamentary Chaplaincies.

“I believe it is time for us to get our act together.” The time has arrived for us to stand firm with the Church as lawmakers. Support the archbishop as well as the Church’s efforts. “Let us be a part of this via action, not just words,” Oulanyah urged.
