With victories, the Vipers and the KCCA get off to a fast start in the season.

Vipers maintained their league supremacy with a 2-0 win over Police FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, extending their winning streak to six games.

Vipers SC and KCCA FC, both title contenders, jumped out to an early lead in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League by winning their respective opening weekend matches.

Vipers maintained their league supremacy with a 2-0 win over Police FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, extending their winning streak to six games.

The Uganda Cup champions were effective in their triumph, leaving Police to rue squandered opportunities in what was Brazilian Roberto Oliveira’s first game in charge of the Venoms.

From the start, the game was heated and end-to-end, with Vipers having the initial assault on the Cops, who performed well to ride out the first wave of attack.

Abdallah Mubiru’s side then had two fantastic chances to go ahead, with skipper Tony Mawejje firing wide from within the box and Brian Mayanja Muluuli blasting straight at Fabien Mutombora from close range.

Bright Anukani, who had been quiet for the first 30 minutes, showed his quality with a smart ball over the Police defense that was superbly executed by Milton Karisa with a brilliant first-time volley.

Ceaser Manzoki scored for the third consecutive game against the Cops with a low drive inside the box 13 minutes into the second half, giving the Vipers a 2-0 lead.

Mubiru’s fortunes were less bright in the second half, as they failed to score a goal and showed little sign of advancement from their first-half dominance. They also lost captain Tony Mawejje, who suffered a concussion after colliding heads with Vipers’ skipper Paul Willa.

Herma Wasswa’s poacher’s header from Tony Kiwalaze’s deep cross rocked the crossbar, and that was Police’s only significant goalmouth opportunity.

The Kasasiro Boys were comfortable winners over the Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, as Morley Byekwaso began his career as permanent KCCA coach.

Sadat Anaku kicked off the KCCA season with a stunning header after six minutes. After around the goalkeeper, Davis Kasirye scored his first goal for the club with a smooth finish.

With a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box, Ashraf Mugume closed off an easy evening for the Kasasiro Boys.

The result propels KCCA to the top of the standings, while Vipers, one of just four clubs to have won so far, are now in third place.
