Following Arsenal’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga appeared to storm down the Etihad Stadium tunnel.

City advanced to the fifth round with a goal from Nathan Ake in the second half, defeating Mikel Arteta’s side, who are currently leading the Premier League.

The Gunners manager made six changes from Sunday’s 3-2 win over Manchester United. Thomas Partey was one player who kept his spot, but he was forced off at halftime for Lokonga due to an injury.

Following the break, City began to take control, with the breakthrough coming after a sustained period of pressure. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Bukayo Saka were dragged out wide by Jack Grealish, allowing Ake to attack.

Lokonga should have had that space covered, but Ake managed to curl a lovely effort past Matt Turner with his weak foot, sending the home crowd wild.

Lokonga’s positioning was an issue throughout the game. Martin Odegaard’s frustrations got the best of him as the game entered injury time.

The Arsenal captain, who came on in the second half to replace Bukayo Saka, motioned to Lokonga as he vacated space in the middle of the park.

As City’s center-backs probed for an opening, he attempted to cover it himself. As the clock approached zero, Odegaard attempted to force the issue and steal the ball from Ilkay Gundogan. When the Germany international went down, referee Paul Tierney awarded City a free kick.

The game was over in less than a minute, and Lokonga was already on his way to the locker room.

Fans have reacted to the footage online, admitting that the 23-year-old is struggling right now.

One person tweeted: “Odegaard told Lokonga to get into position three times and he still didn’t wanna listen.”

Another put: “I’ve seen enough and so have they.”

Someone said: “You can see why Odegaard was BLASTING him.”

While a fourth added: “At one point, Odegaard was yelling at Lokonga and pointing to the midfield. Something as basic as being well positioned, the guy still lacks.”

ITV pundit Roy Keane slammed Arteta’s decision to rotate in such a big game. He stated prior to the game: “We thought he’d make one or two changes, but it’s such a risk to make so many changes at the back, especially with the attacking players Man City has.

“The priority for Arsenal – because they’ve had such a great start – is of course the league. But I just think to make so many changes defensively, people talking about the priorities, but it’s still January. They’ve got no midweek game coming up.

“Huge risk and I’m pretty sure it will backfire on him.”
