The Karrie Webb Trophy will be awarded to Australia’s best female golfers when the inaugural Australian WPGA Championship takes place at Royal Queensland in January, alongside the men’s counterpart.

A group of 24 players, including Hannah Green, the winner of the 2019 Women’s PGA Championship, will battle for the A$180 000 ($133 164) first prize and the Webb Trophy, named after the seven-time major champion.

“I’m pleased to have my name on the Australian WPGA Championship trophy, but I’m even more ecstatic that Australia’s top female golfers will have another marquee event to compete in,” Webb said in a statement.

“I know how important another 72-hole championship event will be for the future of women’s professional golf in Australia because I played in the Women’s Australian Open and the Australian Ladies Masters.”

The two competitions will take place at the Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane from January 13 to 16, 2019, however the women’s championship will be a separate event from 2023 onwards, according to organizers.

The men’s Australian PGA Championship, which has produced past winners such as Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, and Adam Scott, was canceled last year because to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding travel to Australia, which still has international and state border restrictions in place, the 2021 men’s and women’s Australian Opens have also been canceled.
