Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, Uganda’s Mufti, has stated that more zeal is needed to achieve the society’s goals of assisting the deaf so that they can live a useful life alongside others.
His words came after he was appointed to the Uganda Society for the Deaf’s Board of Trustees as a trustee.
UMSC secretary general Ramadhan Mugalu, who represented the Mufti at the inauguration ceremony in Old Kampala, expressed gratitude on his behalf for the faith shown in him.
Mubaje also commended the departing board for their outstanding service to the vulnerable, particularly the deaf.
Dr. Lawrence L. Ssemusu, representing the Kampala Archdiocese Catholic Church, Stelious Kasule, representing the Uganda Orthodox Church, Christine Kiganda, representing the Deaf Foundation Organization, and Misuseera Kabugo, Life President of the Uganda Society for the Deaf, have also been appointed to the board.
The newly appointed members were given a tour of the society’s head offices and carpentry training center, which are located at Kyadondo Road, Namirembe, and Ntinda School for Deaf, respectively, in Nakawa division.
The facilities are located on land donated by the Namirembe Anglican Church and President Idi Amin.
The Society, which is located on Kyadondo Road on Namirembe Hill in Kampala, was founded in the mid-1960s with the goal of providing care and life skills to disabled children.
