WE CAN’T SIT AND WAIT FOR ANOTHER ELECTION RIGGING – INGRID TURINAWEE TO M7
By Aggrey Baba
The winds of change are blowing through Uganda’s political landscape, and they are carrying with them the voice of Ingrid Turinawe, a former member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), now standing shoulder to shoulder with Dr. Kizza Besigye and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago. Together, they have birthed a new political force, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a party poised to challenge the status quo and bring the kind of leadership Ugandans have long yearned for.
In the words of Turinawe, “We will be a front that fights at all times. [Like the river that keeps flowing], we will not wait for the next election to be rigged before we act.” The seasoned politician, who has seen the twists and turns of Uganda’s political struggles, insists that the battle for true chenge cannot be put on hold. “Ugandans have suffered long enough under poor governance; it’s time for the right change,” she declared, echoing the proverb, [A bird does not change its feathers because the weather is bad].
But forming PFF has not been without its challenges. Like the lion that must fight through thick bushes to catch its prey, Turinawe and her team faced hurdles from the Electoral Commission. At first, the Commission raised objections over the party’s colors, claiming they resembled FDC’s, and later tried to block their name, saying it was too similar to that of another political party. But just as the sun rises no matter the storm, PFF overcame these barriers. “The Electoral Commission is not lawfully mandated to reserve political party names,” Turinawe affirmed, reminding all that no obstacle can stop the determined.
As PFF takes its final registration steps, it promises to remain steadfast in its mission, knowing fully well that change is like a seed, it must be planted and nurtured with patience, but with relentless effort. “We are here to fight for the good governance Ugandans deserve, and we will not stop until that dream is realized,” she said, standing firm with Besigye, Lukwago, and others. In this new political dawn, the People’s Front for Freedom is ready to write a new chapter in Uganda’s history, one where the people’s voice is truly heard.
