Washington, US | BAZZUP | U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated in a statement that the U.S. military attacked a weapons storage site in eastern Syria on Wednesday, believing it to be used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran and its affiliates.
According to Austin, the operation was conducted by two American F-15 fighter aircraft as a “precision self-defense strike” in response to “a series of attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by IRGC-Quds Force affiliates.”
The Pentagon chief said that the US is “against any escalation” in the Middle East and that the military strike was ordered by US President Joe Biden.
According to Syrian media sources, U.S. Marines attacked the area around Bor Saeed Street, east of the city of Deir al-Zour. Earlier, there were strong explosions in the eastern countryside of Deir al-Zour near the al-Omar oil field, which is home to a US outpost.
According to sources, the present episodes seemed to be a part of the lately intensifying gunfight in Deir al-Zour between pro-Iranian rebels and US troops.
