UPPC corruption suspects are accused of stealing Shs600 million by the police.
The money was discovered as part of the shs3 billion that the suspects, including UPPC's Managing Director, Prof. Waswa Tomas Davis, are accused of stealing from the company.
Police detectives from the Crime Investigations Division collected shs600 million in cash from suspects in the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) fraud on Wednesday.
The money was discovered as part of the shs3 billion that the suspects, including UPPC’s Managing Director, Prof. Waswa Tomas Davis, are accused of stealing from the company.
CID spokesperson Charles Twiine stated today that the CID officers had recovered shs600 million in embezzled funds.
“Detectives from the CID headquarters have recovered Shs600 million from Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation suspects. The money was part of the shs3 billion plunder that had gone through an account of a bogus Commission agent and was meant for another criminal accomplice.” Twiine expressed herself on Twitter.

Twiine reported last week that UPPC’s MD Waswa Tomas had been detained by police officers at CID headquarters for allegedly embezzling shs3 billion from the company. He went on to say that additional criminals will be sought.
UPPC board members have been on the hot seat for a long time due to suspicions of corruption and mismanagement at the government business.
Following growing public outrage, Minister of Presidency Milly Babalanda visited UPPC headquarters on August 17 and announced the corporation’s board of directors be suspended to allow for seamless investigations into charges of corruption, abuse of authority, and mismanagement.
“Using my powers as Line Minister under Section 6 of the UPPC Act, I temporarily suspended the M.D. and the UPPC Board of Directors yesterday. The move is designed to clear the way for probes into claims of corruption and forgery. On August 18, Babalanda tweeted, “All other personnel is asked to continue working normally.”
Babalanda also suspended all board operations, including all transactions and procurement projects, and appointed James Tweheyo, the former UNATU chief, as interim MD.
Following the suspension of the UPPC board, Minister Babalanda directed the CID to investigate the corporation’s suspected theft.
Prof. Waswa Tomas Davis, Kitamuweesi Musubire (Chairman Board of Directors), Moreen Nyakato (Ag. Corporation Secretary), and Andrew Senabulya (Senior Internal Auditor) are accused of embezzling shs3 billion from the company.
Under the UPPC Act, Cap 330, UPPC was established in 1992 as a government-owned public enterprise.
All legislation, laws, and official gazettes must be printed by the corporation. Due to its significant significance, Cabinet categorized it as one of the public entities in which the government must retain complete control.
