For nearly two weeks, Ugandan and Congolese soldiers have been engaged in a combined operation against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
The ADF was created in Uganda, but was expelled in the first decade of the twentieth century.
The Ugandan operation was prompted by a series of bombings in Uganda that were linked to the ADF.
Concerns have been raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as Ugandan troops have been accused of stealing and human rights violations in the past when they visited the nation.
In a state of the union address, Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi said, “I would ensure that the presence of Ugandan forces on our country is restricted to the time strictly necessary for this operation.”
Uganda, for its part, has stated that it will remain in the DR Congo for as long as it takes to defeat the ADF, according to Reuters.
