Unvaccinated teachers will not be allowed in class, says Janet Museveni

Janet Kataha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, has stated that teachers who refuse to comply with government requests to obtain the Covid-19 vaccine will be barred from teaching once schools reopen.

“I want you to know that we are going to ask the heads of schools and institutions to be tough in ensuring that no teacher who has not been vaccinated is permitted to teach or attend school at all. Please don’t believe this is simply a conversation. We’re doing this for your own benefit,’ she explained.

She stated that the Ministry of Education and Sports is doing its part to guarantee that all instructors and students over the age of 18 get vaccinated.

“It is critical that you obtain these vaccines,” she added. “If you do not get vaccinated, you may not be able to attend schools for the job you require.”

She stated that she discussed the issue of teacher vaccination with the Ministry of Health, and that they agreed that the practice should be conducted at schools and universities.

“The Ministry of Health agreed with me that the vaccination centers would now be brought to schools and universities where the teaching staff could be immunized independently. That is to ensure that as many instructors, university students, and other higher institutions as possible get vaccinated as quickly as possible,” she explained.

In May, schools were closed due to a spike in Covid-19 infections.
