Uganda’s Economy to fully reopen in January
After President Museveni promised Ugandans that the economy will fully reopen in January, there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
“By January 2022, we will be able to open schools and the rest of the economy with reasonable safety.” We will reopen the economy whether or not people are vaccinated, but if something goes wrong, the moral burden is yours,” the president stated.
Various stakeholders have urged the government to reopen the economy in the past, but the president has remained steadfast.
Previously, President Museveni stated that the full reopening of the economy was contingent on a large percentage of the people being vaccinated, but on Thursday, he stated that the government will reopen regardless of vaccination status.

He did say, however, that by December, a total of 23 million doses of the covid vaccinations would have been received, enough to vaccinate 12 million individuals.
According to the president, 4.8 million frontline workers, such as security personnel, teachers, non-teaching staff in educational institutions, medical personnel, and those who are vulnerable, such as market workers, bar workers, university students, adults over the age of 58, and those with underlying illnesses, will be among the 12 million.
“Many of the vaccinations required to vaccinate the 12 million people are currently on the market. Out of the 21 people who should be vaccinated, more than 12 will have been immunized by the end of December. “There are 4.8 million people among the 12 million who will act as a fire buffer,” he said.
The president voiced concern, however, that Ugandans over the age of 50 had declined to be vaccinated, despite the fact that the inoculation is meant to protect them from the virus.
“I don’t believe Ugandans are resisting vaccinations; they are simply not being informed.” I’d like to let you know that immunizations are now available at the health centers. I’m informing Ugandans that immunizations are accessible for frontline workers and other groups. Get vaccinated at the health center IIIs.”
Sub-county heads, GISOs, and Chief Administrative Officers have been requested to guarantee that the public is mobilized to get vaccinated.
