Ugandan Pilots Perish in DR Congo & Tanzania Plane Crashes

Two pilots from the Ugandan aviation sector died in separate aircraft accidents that occurred in Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Press Secretary to President Museveni, said on Monday, “Our hearts are bleeding for Capt. Buruhan Rubaga and Capt. Ninsiima Jackson Khiira who died in separate jet crashes in TZ and DRC.”

It’s a blow to our aviation business, he continued. We commit them to the care of the Creator.

Kitatta Ibrahim Almalik, the spokeswoman for the Office of the National Chairman NRM and the LCV Chairperson for the Lwengo District, made the initial announcement of the terrible news.

Buruhan Rubaga, captain

“A DARK DAY IN THE SKIES FOR UGANDA. We have lost two seasoned pilots, Captain Ninsiima Jackson Khiira and Capt. Buruhan Rubaga, in aircraft accidents that occurred in the Congo and Lake Victoria, respectively. We are sending up prayers for their loved ones and friends. May God grant them eternal peace, added Kitatta.

When contacted by SoftPower News for comment, Kitatta stated that he was still in a meeting.

By the time of publishing, Uganda Airlines still hadn’t received the report, and neither the UPDF nor the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority’s spokespeople had gotten back to us.

In the DRC, Captain Ninsiima perished

Capt. Ninsiima was claimed to be from the Kikaatsi sub-county in the same area, according to Mukago Dan Rutetebya, who describes himself as the LC5 Chairman of Kiruhura district.

Ninsiima, Captain

“We lose a brilliant soul as a district and as greater Kikaatsi S/C today. Capt. Jackson Ninsiima has been called to serve the Lord in heaven. It is a sad day, a day of darkness, and a day of anguish. I send my sincere condolences to Chairman Stephen Khiira’s family. RIP, brave Pilot,” tweeted Rutetebya.

According to accounts, Capt. Ninsiima passed away while traveling in a Goma Express turboprop.

Aviation Safety Network reports that the incident took place on November 3, 2022, at about 2:32 pm.

On November 5, rescue personnel located the wreckage in the middle of a forest in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, and on November 6, they arrived at the scene.

There were no living people. There were either two or three crew members aboard the flight, according to conflicting sources.

According to AFP, the plane took off on Thursday with three persons aboard, including one passenger and cargo as well as two crew members—a Ukrainian pilot and a Ugandan co-pilot.

The pilot attempted “without success” to land at Kavumu airport in Bukavu because to poor weather, a source told AFP.

When a Precision Air plane crashed, Capt. Rubaga perished.

According to accounts, Capt. Rubaga perished on board Precision Air’s aircraft PW 494 on Sunday when it crashed into Lake Victoria in Tanzania. We couldn’t get the airline to confirm this for us.

The country’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa reports that 19 people have died as of this point, but 24 additional passengers have now been saved.

The aircraft, which took off from Dar es Salaam, the country’s economic hub, crashed while attempting to land in bad weather.

In the Kagera region’s northwest lakeside city of Bukoba, it fell into the water.

43 individuals were on board the aircraft, according to regional commissioner Albert Chalamila, including 39 passengers, 2 pilots, and 2 cabin personnel.

The largest privately owned airline in Tanzania, Precision Air, announced that it has sent out an inquiry team made up of TAA and Precision Air technical experts (Tanzania Airports Authority).
