Commencement of the Uganda-Shandong Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Conference

The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Beijing, China, in collaboration with the Shandong Foreign Office, will host the Uganda-Shandong Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Conference on November 8, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.
The purpose of this one-day conference, which is co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Kampala, the Chinese Embassy in Kampala, the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), and other MDAs, is to strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of Uganda and China.
The Conference, one of the events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between Uganda and China, will be a hybrid event with both physical and online participation.
This Conference’s objectives include: I Exploring opportunities for cooperation in cotton production and textile value chain companies; ii) Building cooperation in the production, processing, and marketing of Ugandan grains, dried tropical fruits, coffee, sesame, and industrial cassava for export to China and outside China; and iii) Exploring opportunities for cooperation in the production, processing, and marketing of Ugandan grains, dried tropical fruits, coffee, sesame, and iii) Describe Uganda’s tourism attractions and prospects, as well as the scenic places development and internal tourism creation process. iv. Examine the petrochemical industry in Shandong and agree to cooperate in developing the complete value chain of the petrochemical industry in Uganda.
Others are: v) Identify firms for mining/mineral processing; vi) Explore prospects for cooperation in value-added processing of agricultural products vii) Explore options for cooperation in the manufacturing sector, specifically machine tool production, and viii) Explore opportunities for cooperation in logistics, transport, and distribution firms.
The Conference will: I Host a Promotion of Investments Forum ii) Mini Expo showcasing Ugandan goods, such as coffee, shear butter, sesame, peanuts, arts and crafts, and tourism products, etc. iii) Facilitate meetings with Shandong Provincial Officials, such as the political leadership and officials from the Department of Commerce and Department of Agriculture; iv) Conduct B2B meetings with prospective investors; and v) Conduct site visits to selected factories.
I 100 companies invited by the Foreign Affairs office in collaboration with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT); and ii) companies involved in agricultural value addition, agricultural mechanization and irrigation, petrochemical industry, tourism industry, and manufacturing industry.
The anticipated outcomes of this conference include: I promotion of Uganda as the premier investment and tourism destination; ii) increased visibility of Ugandan products on the Chinese market; and iii) identification of potential investors and their connection with the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) iv. Identification and connection of potential Chinese importers with Ugandan exporters. v. Drafting of agreed-upon minutes with possible investors and appropriate Authorities.
During the conference, the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda will discuss preferential policies and incentives offered to Chinese Investors in Uganda.
In addition, the Embassy and MDAs in Uganda will provide Chinese investors with the information and support they need to invest in Uganda or develop partnerships with Ugandan businesses for trade, investment, and tourism.
