Uganda and South Sudan are in negotiations about a growing number of deadly ambushes targeting transit trucks on South Sudanese territory.
According to a statement released by Uganda’s ministry of foreign affairs, Okello Oryem, Uganda’s minister of state in charge of international affairs, is in Juba, South Sudan’s capital, to discuss ending the ambushes with his colleagues.
“The government of Uganda was shocked and concerned a few days ago when Ugandans were killed and commodities were destroyed along this stretch of road. “The government of Uganda has previously expressed its concern and once again condemns the killings,” said John Mulimba, Uganda’s minister of state in charge of regional cooperation, in a statement read in parliament.
Mulimba said the government of South Sudan had been informed of the attacks, which resulted in the deaths of roughly seven Ugandans.
At least seven Ugandan drivers were slain by terrorists in locations between Juba and the Ugandan border on Tuesday, according to local media.
Uganda petitioned South Sudan in April to compensate relatives of drivers slain in road ambushes by unknown militia.
