Uganda Airlines acquires Air Operator Certificate for Airbus 330

Uganda Airlines has stated that it is nearing completion of bilateral agreements with several partner airlines in order to improve its operations.
According to Jennifer Bamuturaki, chief executive officer of Uganda Airlines, this collaborative venture would help the airline overcome the challenges posed by the global health crisis.
Bamuturaki made the announcement shortly after the national carrier received an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) for its Airbus A330-800 neo aircraft after demonstrating beyond a reasonable doubt that they have systems in place to facilitate operation of this aircraft.
The air operator certificate is UCAA’s authorisation of an aircraft operator’s use of a particular aircraft type for commercial purposes.
Before awarding an air operator certificate, UCAA is obliged by international standards to verify the operator, the manner of flight operations monitoring, and maintenance arrangements, among other things.
Bamuturaki stated that mechanisms are being put in place to make Uganda Airlines competitive.
“We will begin commercial flights on regional routes tomorrow (today), but not all of them.
Putting our cargo structure in place is one of the numerous things we’re doing. “While we are red listed for people travel, we are not red listed for cargo,” she explained.
The successful inclusion of the Airbus on the Uganda Air Operator Certificate (AOC) would open the way for extended operations, according to Fred Byamukama, the state Minister for Transport who officiated at the transfer event.
Fred Bamwesigye, the interim director general of the UCAA, praised the crew for successfully completing the process of adding the Airbus to the AOC.
“Because this is a new aircraft on the market, you have to make sure that the personnel handling it, for example, are qualified for it, that the pilot and maintenance engineers are prepared with the necessary equipment and maintenance facilities,” he explained.
