THOMAS TUCHEL has said that the Premier League is to blame for Chelsea’s poor season.
After a 3-1 win against Aston Villa, he unleashed a stinging attack on the authorities for forcing clubs to go on amid the Covid outbreak.
Chelsea’s victory came at a cost, as Thiago Silva (hamstring) and N’Golo Kante were both injured (knee).
“They make us play with new injuries and it won’t stop,” Tuchel said after the twin injury blow.
“We played against a team that was not on international assignment here.” It will eventually catch up with us. These judgments are made at the green table, in offices.
“We have two more cup games against opponents that have had their games rescheduled. This can’t possibly be the proper path.”
Tuchel not only expressed his displeasure at being compelled to play, but he also advocated for the reinstatement of five substitutions in the Premier League.
“There aren’t enough changes,” he stated. The number three is a significant disadvantage. Coronavirus prompted the creation of five submarines.
“Will it change?” says the narrator. There’s no way. There are five changes in the other leagues. Then there’s the Champions League, where we’ll have to battle against them.
“It’s a little aggravating.” We play through Europe’s winter vacation and put it on the players’ shoulders. They constantly force us to play.
“Because we needed to change players, we let Callum Hudson-Odoi play 90 minutes.”
It’s not fair; we’re just filling in the gaps where we can.
“Lukaku put in a fantastic performance. But, even if he wanted it, he’s not ready for it.
“With the flu, we’ve all been in bed for ten days.” Lukaku was a game-changer for the team. I’m really impressed with the men, but I’m also worried.”
The title race is still on, according to striker Lukaku, who also cautioned Premier League leaders Manchester City: “We are the hunters now.”
After testing positive for Covid, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was isolated, and coach Gary McAllister said: “He has no symptoms, so you can image how irritating it would’ve been to watch the game from home.”
