Total has started a program to teach Ugandans to work in the oil industry.
A free online program intended at discovering, hiring, educating, and developing 150 talented Ugandans to work in the country's oil and gas industry.
Total Energies EP Uganda has established the Tilenga Massive Open Online Courses (Tilenga MOOC), a free online program intended at discovering, hiring, educating, and developing 150 talented Ugandans to work in the country’s oil and gas industry.
The initiative is part of the company’s commitment to Ugandan National Content Development.
The successful beneficiaries will be trained in partnership with the Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) over the next four years to become production operators, maintenance technicians, and inspection technicians for the Tilenga project, with international training exposure at a TotalEnergies producing site.
Philippe Groueix, the General Manager for TotalEnergies EP Uganda, stated during the launch event at the Kampala Serena Hotel that the company aims to improve the competences and capacities of Ugandan companies, Ugandan citizens, and registered entities in oil and gas activities to encourage local participation.
“As an authentically Ugandan company, we are committed to maximize the utilization of Ugandan expertise, commodities, and services.” The Tilenga MOOC is one of these projects, according to Groueix, which will improve the abilities and knowledge of young brilliant Ugandans interested in working in the oil and gas business.
He also added that the program is part of TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s national content strategy and efforts, which would be emphasized in the really Ugandan campaign to promote energy efficiency.
The program is open to all Ugandans between the ages of 18 and 28, with a focus on those residing in Tilenga Project regions, according to officials.
The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAUDirector )’s Technical Support Services, Peninah Aheebwa, praised TotalEnergies EP for launching the program, which she said fits into the overall national content strategy aimed at encouraging Ugandans and Ugandan companies to participate in the oil and gas sector.

Participants will get technical, scientific, and mathematical expertise, according to the TotalEnergies EP Uganda General Manager, and those who successfully finish the program will receive certificates of recognition.
Participants would receive intensive training on health, safety, and the environment, in addition to career and skill rewards, he said.
