The Wallabies have lost Kerevi and are considering recalling Beale.
Kerevi and back-rower Sean McMahon, according to Rennie, chose to stay in Japan with their club Suntory Goliath rather than attend the tour.
The Wallabies’ European tour has been canceled, and playmaker Quade Cooper’s participation is now in doubt, with coach Dave Rennie considering recalling Kurtley Beale to boost his backline.
Kerevi and back-rower Sean McMahon, according to Rennie, chose to stay in Japan with their club Suntory Goliath rather than attend the tour.
He added the Wallabies were in talks with Cooper’s club, Kintetsu Liners, to see if the experienced fly-half would be available for the tour, which will include matches against Scotland, England, and Wales.
Kerevi and McMahon’s departure was “disappointing,” but Rennie said he understood their decision.
“We were hoping to get a bit more out of them late in the year,” he said in an interview released late Tuesday by the Wallabies. “But they’ve made their decision based on the desire of the clubs, and we’ve just got to get on with things.”
Before the Wallabies modified their selection requirements for overseas players, Kerevi, McMahon, and Cooper signed for their Japanese clubs.
Because the visit occurs during an international test window, the Wallabies may demand their release, but Rennie said the players did not want to upset their teams.
Rennie stated he was considering bringing in Beale for the tour’s first test against Scotland on November 8 due to Reece Hodge’s pectoral ailment.
“We’ve made touch with Kurtley and we’ve had chats with Kurtley over time, and he’s made it very plain that he wants to be a Wallaby again,” he added.
Beale, 32, completed his 92 tests at the 2019 World Cup in Japan and is now with Racing 92 in France.
