The United States has placed a Shs 17 billion bounty on Kony’s head.

The United States of America (USA) has declared a $17 billion reward for any information leading to Joseph Kony’s capture and prosecution for crimes against humanity perpetrated in northern Uganda.

The US Department of State announced this through their “War Crimes Rewards Program.”

“Joseph Kony has been on the run for over a decade. You may earn up to $5 million if you assist bring him to justice (about shs 17 billion). On Twitter, the US War Crimes Rewards Program stated, “100% confidentiality.”

In the 1990s, Joseph Kony, a former altar boy, conducted a war against the Ugandan government that resulted in the deaths, maiming, and displacement of thousands of people from Northern Uganda, who were forced to live in IDP camps.

The two-decade struggle resulted in nearly two million people being incarcerated in concentration camps in Northern Uganda, but after Kony and his rebel group were ousted to the Central African Republic by the UPDF, people have slowly returned to their homes.

Efforts to have peace discussions with the rebels have been made on various times, but little has come of them.

The US government claims to have been seeking for Kony for more than 15 years, but all past attempts to apprehend him have failed.
