The election of Moses Okia Attan, the flag bearer of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), as MP for Soroti City East has been declared null and void by the Soroti High Court.
This is the first of nine election petitions filed at the Soroti high court to be decided.
Herbert Edmund Ariko, who had lost in the January polls, disputed Attan’s victory.

Lady Justice Anne Mugengyi ordered in her judgement that new elections be held in Soroti City East due to overwhelming evidence of election malpractices.The petitioner was given costs, which both respondents must pay.
Six people applied for the competition. Attan got 7,606 votes, Ariko got 7,164 votes, Jimmy Ekemu (NRM) got 397 votes, Sarah Inachu (Ind) got 185 votes, James Herbert Elaju (UPC) got 99 votes, and Arnold Emachu (NUP) got 86 votes.Attan stated that he will talk with his legal team before taking any further steps.
