The National Unity Platform (NUP) has voiced concern that recent bombings could be blamed on NUP members.
Before security starts pointing fingers, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya has requested for comprehensive investigations into the culprits.
Rubongoya told journalists at the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya on Monday that early indications suggest police may attempt to blame them for the attacks.
“Some persons were dressed in People Power garb before the explosion, according to one eyewitness statement from the scene (at Komamboga on Saturday),” Rubongoya said.
Rubongoya stated that they’ve recently had people approach them, claiming that they’d been paid to blame machete attacks and other crimes on opposition figures.
“Just last week, a truck driver came into our office and stated that someone offered him money to accept being given guns and explosives in exchange for confessing on TV that Honourable Kyagulanyi delivered them to him. “We know the dictatorship will try to use this to detain politicians,” Rubongoya predicted.
The genuine perpetrators of the Komamboga bomb attack, according to NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, are not difficult to find if security is taken seriously.
“It is not complicated if police and other investigative organizations are serious about carrying out investigations,” Ssenyonyi said.
The Komamboga bombing was categorized by police as a “domestic act of terrorism,” despite the fact that the terror group Islamic State claimed credit for the crime.
