Education

The Ministry of Education has released a schedule for school reopening.

Janet Kataha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, has announced that all schools will return for term one on January 10, 2022.

Janet Kataha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, has announced that all schools will return for term one on January 10, 2022.

On Wednesday, the minister revealed the information at the 28th Annual Education and Sports Sector Review Workshop in Kololo.

Mrs Museveni stated in her speech that schools will reopen for all levels at the same time in order to make up for the time lost while they were closed.

“On January 10th, 2022, all levels of education, including pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools, will reopen. “The first term will run for 14 weeks, from Monday, January 10, 2022, to Friday, April 14, 2022, followed by a three-week holiday,” she stated.

According to Janet Museveni, the second term would run for 14 weeks, from Monday, May 9, 2022, to Friday, August 19, 2022, with a three-week break in between.

The third term will run from Monday, September 5, 2022, to Friday, December 9, 2022, with a seven-week break before the start of the fourth term on Monday, January 29, 2023.

Learners in P.4, P.5, and P.6 have already completed their tests and were promoted to the next appropriate classes by the time schools shuttered for the second COVID-19 national lockdown in June 2021, according to the ministry.

She stated that the 2020 P.1, P.2, and P.3 classes would report to the P.2, P.3, and P.4 classes, respectively.

“During the first term of 2022, remedial lessons will be provided for these classes to help them cover important information from the prior class,” the minister stated.

“In the year 2020, the senior one and senior two classes will be promoted to senior two and senior three, respectively. These classes will receive remedial courses during the first semester of 2022, despite the fact that they had previously benefited from home-study materials. When the 2020 senior three, senior, and senior five classes report for the first term of 2022, they will be promoted to senior four and senior six, respectively.”

Fees

Janet Museveni, when asked how parents will pay school fees, responded that the ministry recognizes that non-U.P.E. and non-U.S.E. implementing schools must charge school fees in order to operate.

The minister stated that the ministry is opposed to arbitrary increases in school fees.

“As a result, we urge schools to keep in mind that these students come from families that have been struggling just as much as the schools have,” she said.
