The Ministry of Education has issued a step-by-step plan for schools in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mpigi to reopen for students.
President Museveni stated on Friday that all schools in Uganda will return on January 10, 2022, after being closed for more than two years because to the Covid pandemic.
He did, however, request that the ministry develop a clear strategy to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kampala Metropolitan Area during the reopening.
The Education Ministry stated in a statement released on Sunday that it had consulted with many stakeholders, including the KCCA, Wakiso, Mukono, and Mpigi district local governments, security, and the Ministry of Works and Transport, before developing a gradual reopening plan.
“All day school students must report to class on Monday, January 10, 2022.” With effect from Monday, January 10, 2022, all learners at residential schools in the districts of Wakiso, Mpigi, Mukono, and Kampala will adopt a staggered reporting plan. Students in the affected districts must report to school no later than January 10, 2022, according to a statement from the Education Ministry.
Students in international schools, whether day or boarding schools, are also required to follow the curriculum, according to the statement.
“Boarding students in A-level and lower primary (boarding) in Mpigi and Wakiso districts will report on January 10, whereas those in O-level, P.5, P.6, and P.7(in boarding) will report on Wednesday, January 12.”
Boarding students in A-level and lower primary in Kampala and Mukono are scheduled to report to school on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, while those in O-level, P.5, P.6, and P.7 are due to report on Thursday, January 13, 2022, according to the announcement.
Schools that have already conveyed to parents a staggered reporting schedule that extends beyond January 13, 2022 are allowed to keep it if no learners report before January 10, 2022, according to the ministry.
The Education Ministry states that “it is the responsibility of the learners’ respective parents or guardians to guarantee that the learner is equipped with a mask to wear when traveling to school utilizing public transportation means.”
