Armed thieves seized a pump-action weapon from a security officer at Stabex pump petrol station in Jinja city in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to police.
The gun was discovered by Kiira region detectives while retrieving the remains of Isaac Olupot, 28, who was gunned down by armed thugs and his colleague was injured.
Security Group Africa Limited-SGA is the company to which the two belong. Apollo Orweny, the SGA Jinja regional manager, had earlier told URN that the criminals had left with the gun. They were able to recover the rifle from the drainage along the pump station after re-inspecting the site. A total of ten cartridges fired from an AK-47 rifle were also discovered by the detectives.
According to Kiira Region Police Spokesperson James Mubi, the cartridges will be forensically examined to determine the origins of the deadly rifle. According to Mubi, the assailants were traveling in a blue trailer, as evidenced by CCTV footage retrieved from the crime scene.
However, he claims that the attackers’ number plates and faces are not visible enough. According to him, the assailants made off with Shillings 3 million. Eyewitness accounts are being recorded by detectives in order to aid their efforts to locate the suspect.
