The first contingent of Afghan refugees arrived at Entebbe airport on Wednesday morning. The number of evacuees is 51, significantly fewer than the previously announced 500, due to the unstable security situation in the embattled Middle Eastern country, according to a news release from the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Even Ugandans who were supposed to board the flight were unable to do so, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The first group will be relocated to hotels and residences in Entebbe city. As a condition of admission, they were checked for Covid.

According to reliable sources, the figure shrank because Washington turned off financing at the last minute after suspecting their Kampala counterparts of engaging in their normal corruption practices.
