The Cabinet has approved proposed salary raises for scientists and science instructors.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and Cabinet Spokesperson, stated this while speaking to the press at the Uganda Media Centre on Tuesday.

“I am pleased to inform you that the requested salary increase for scientists, health professionals, science instructors, and scientists at public universities has been approved by Cabinet,” Baryomunsi added.

President Museveni met with physicians from the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) in the Entebbe State House in June 2021, when he reaffirmed the government’s resolve to raise medical practitioners’ and other scientists’ wages.

The president stated at the time that his administration was committed to implementing a science-led development approach to improve Uganda.

The president said during the gathering that each of the physicians would get Shs. Beginning in July of this year, you will be paid $5 million as a starting wage.

Medical interns currently earn Shs 940,000 in gross pay, while medical officers get Shs. 3 million people.

The pay of a senior consultant is Shs. 7.3 million people.

Resolutions passed by the cabinet

Cabinet praised Uganda’s efforts in seeking to host the East African Monetary Institute as a prelude to hosting the East African Central Bank.

The Cabinet took notice of the strategic measures aimed at improving internet connectivity and affordability in the country.
