The assassinations in Masaka are a sign of inept security agencies

The widespread murders in Masaka, according to National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, are an evidence that the regime has failed to give protection to the people.

According to police statistics, the death toll from the Greater Masaka gang attacks has risen to 32 individuals in the space of five weeks.

Despite extensive combined security deployments, including night patrols intended at safeguarding the area, Kyagulanyi said that the regime is as unaware of the murders as the Ugandan people.

In a statement, Kyagulanyi stated, “It is intriguing that the assailants target the most vulnerable residents, and appear to be just interested in their victims’ lives and nothing else.”

President Museveni boasted in a television address two years ago, Kyagulanyi said, that he had “wiped out” the masterminds of similar serial killings that happened in the region in 2018, referring to them as “dumb pigs.”

Kiddawalime and Galiwango were named as the masterminds of the attacks at the time, and Museveni promised the country that they had been permanently “defeated.”

He recalled that in June of this year, the president of state paraded Resty Nakyambadde in front of the nation, who presented a version of events leading up to Kiddawalime’s death that contradicted a narrative she gave to the media more than two years before.

“At worst, it (the regime) exploited them for political gain by falsely assuring civilians that the suspects had been apprehended when, in fact, they had not been apprehended or that some of them had been sheltered. This behavior is congruent with the regime’s favorite hymn, “We bring calm and slumber,” when the reality, as we all know, is completely different.

Residents of the Masaka sub-region have been mourning the loss of loved ones, and Kyagulanyi has urged them to remain watchful and do the best they can to protect themselves because they are on their own.
