World Athletics announced on Wednesday that the World Cross Country Championships, originally scheduled for February 19, 2022 in Bathurst, Australia, had been postponed to 2023 owing to travel restrictions imposed by local authorities to combat the spread of Covid-19.
“The postponement is due to existing biosecurity controls and travel restrictions in place in Australia to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” World Athletics said in a statement.
“International travelers are not permitted to enter Australia.
“For a one-day event, the 14-day quarantine regulations for international visitors to Australia are impractical.
The competition will now be held in Bathurst on February 18, 2023, with over 550 athletes from over 60 countries anticipated to compete.
The Mount Panorama venue will host five events: elite races for men and women (10km), a mixed relay (8km), and two U20 races for men (8km) and women (8km) (6km).
