Moscow, Russia | BAZZUP | The second Russia-Africa Summit will take place in St. Petersburg in July, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed that he will be there, according to an exclusive interview with TASS First Deputy Director-General Mikhail Gusman.

“I’m coming to St. Petersburg in July without a doubt. The political will is crucially important in this matter. It is a problem of philosophy rather than one of needs. The other things are only details as long as you embrace the idea of equality and brotherhood, he remarked.

The relationship between Russia and Uganda has always been good, according to Museveni.

We didn’t get much of a break after [former Soviet Union President Mikhail] Gorbachev. When Russia was in an unstable period, we did not cooperate, the president said, noting that things later stabilized again.

The Ugandan president added, “Therefore we had a very good relationship with the Soviet Union, and now we have a very good relationship with Russia.”

He further stated that Uganda really valued its defense cooperation with Russia.

We are happy with our work with the Russian Federation right now. We work together in the area of military, and we import high-end Russian technology and weapons, the Ugandan president declared.

Museveni highlighted his appreciation for the Soviet Union’s support in the struggle against colonialism in Africa.

The second summit and business forum between Russia and Africa will take place in St. Petersburg from July 26 to 29. The inaugural summit took place in Sochi from October 22–24, 2019, with the theme “For Peace, Security, and Development.”

Agricultural and oil cooperation

According to Museveni, there is great potential for collaboration between Russia and Uganda in a variety of fields, including agriculture, healthcare, and the oil industry.

“Russia now produces a lot of fertilizers. Even while we can see this area’s promise, we haven’t yet put it into practice. We have potential in the petrochemical and oil industries. “There is plenty of room to move around,” he remarked.

Museveni also emphasized the enormous potential for cooperation between the two nations in sectors connected to citizens’ basic needs.

“Food, housing, clothing, medication, mobility (ability to move about), and communication are a few of these needs. Human requirements include all of these and many more. It depends on who manages what better. And that’s how the conversation proceeds, the president continued.
