After his term ends on July 31, 2022, Wim Vanhelleputte will no longer serve as the Company’s chief executive officer.
This is in accordance with a letter sent to its shareholders by MTN Uganda Limited.
Mr. Vanhelleputte successfully oversaw the renewal of MTN’s NTO License, the division of the telecom company from the mobile financial services sector, the initial public offering, and the listing of the Company on the Uganda Securities Exchange during his six (6) years of service.
With effect from August 1, 2022, he has been promoted to the position of Operating Executive for the WECA Markets of Liberia, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea-Bissau, and Congo-Brazzaville within the MTN Group.
In a statement, Chairman of the Board of Directors Charles Mbire expressed gratitude to Vanhelleputte for his exceptional service throughout the years and commitment to the Company’s expansion during that time. We wish him luck in his new position.
The Board has announced that Ms. Sylvia Wairimu Mulinge would start serving as CEO on October 1, 2022.
From Safaricom Plc, where she presently serves as Chief Consumer Business Officer, Mulinge joins MTN.
She is in charge of directing Safaricom’s transformation into a digital lifestyle enabler of consumers’ lives, managing the company’s entire brand, and driving the consumer telecoms business in this capacity.
Mulinge joined Safaricom in 2007 and has held a number of key positions over the years, including Director of Consumer Business, Head of Retail, and Head of Sales.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nairobi in Kenya (first-class honours).
“I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Sylvia Mulinge at MTN Uganda. Her expertise will be useful to MTN, in my opinion, especially given that she aligns with our strategic goal of providing innovative digital solutions for the development of Africa. The Board is convinced that Ms. Mulinge will continue to strive toward making the Company a premier supplier of digital and telecoms solutions, said Mbire.
With effect from August 1, 2022, until September 30, 2022, Mr. Andrew Bugembe, the current chief financial officer, will serve as the temporary CEO.
