Anwar El Ghazi, a Moroccan-born striker, has been at odds with German club Mainz ever since he backed Palestine against Israel’s assaults. They’ve taken it a step further and started the process of firing the player since the former Lille player won’t modify his behavior.

What is the result? El Ghazi is officially no longer a Mainz player. Anwar El Ghazi’s contract with FSV Mainz 05 was terminated, and the player was fired on Friday with immediate effect. The player’s comments and posts on social media have prompted the club to take this action, the club said.

Despite being fired, the 28-year-old athlete used social media to reaffirm his support for Palestine. “Having the courage to stand for oneself and speak out for what is right. El Ghazi writes on Instagram, “The hell being unleashed on the innocent and vulnerable of Gaza is nothing compared to the loss of my livelihood.”
