Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed he will meticulously control Cristiano Ronaldo’s playing time.
On Saturday, Ronaldo, who had spent the last 12 years at a different club, scored two goals at Old Trafford to help United beat Newcastle 4-1 in the Premier League.
Solskjaer revealed that he is considering keeping Cristiano Ronaldo fresh by benching him for one of United’s initial Champions League group stage matches.
“He can be left out,” Solskjaer remarked. “He is a 36-year-old. I have to monitor Mason’s minutes because he’s 19, as well as a 36-year-old player who I am managing his minutes.
“I also know that Cristiano takes great care of himself, which means that he will be able to recuperate fast, and that he has had a solid preseason of preparation.
“To be sure, we want to get everyone running and give him 90 minutes to be sure he is doing better.”
After the first month of matches, United lead the Premier League with 10 points. They’re going to West Ham United to play in the league on Sunday.
