Ruto’s Daughter Charlene Chelagat in Uganda to Inspire Student Leaders

Kenya’s first daughter, Charlene Chelagat Ruto, is in Uganda for the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) Presidential Lecture Series (PLS).

This is an annual event that exposes students and the broader community to inspiring ideas, courageous leadership and models of civic engagement and civil discourse.

Charlene who arrived in the country on Wednesday, was the main speaker of the intergenerational fireside discussion (Ekyooto) with female student leaders from universities held at Nsambya Gardens in Kampala.

On the same occasion, Her Excellency Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the former Vice-President of The Gambia, and Minister of Women’s Affairs, also had a conversation with female student leaders.

She will deliver a presidential lecture on Thursday at the Yusuf Lule Auditorium at Makerere University.

The objective of the 2023 Presidential lecture is to highlight the systemic changes needed for women to become transformative leaders to effectively shape inclusive, equitable societies that humanity needs and deserves.

“Join us in celebrating the phenomenal women who have taken strides across global communities in championing Pan-Africanism and excellence across all spheres this Thursday at the Yusuf Lule Auditorium, Makerere University,” Charlene Ruto tweeted on Tuesday.

A youth champion, climate change action champion, and Pan-Africanist, she is also the patron of Smart Mechanised Agriculture & Climate Action for Humanity & Sustainability (SMACHS Foundation).

Born January 11, 1993, she is the third-born daughter of Kenya’s President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto.

Charlene actively campaigned for her father ahead of the 2022 Kenyan general election, and after his inauguration in September 2022, she has been actively attending national and global events.

Charlene holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Daystar University, and a Master of Business Administration in Hospitality from Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Between August 2012 to January 2013, she was a foreign exchange student at Northwestern College.
