President of Kenya, H.E. William Ruto, has stated that Kenya will always heed the call to advance stability and peace in East Africa.
He stated that the nations of East Africa must cooperate to put an end to the disputes and violence that prevent the region’s development.
Speaking on behalf of the East African Community Regional Force, he flagged off the Kenyan force heading to the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Wednesday at Embakasi Garrison (EACRF).
Ruto salutes the soldiers.
“This deployment is important and necessary because it satisfies our region’s collective desire for long-lasting peace. “Until the job is finished, we owe DRC our brotherly responsibility,” he stated.
The Kenyan President further stated that the Kenya Defence Forces’ long history of peacekeeping is continued through Kenya’s participation in the EACRF.
He urged the soldiers to carry out their mission in a professional manner.
In order to aid in reestablishing security in the area, East African Community (EAC) leaders decided to form a combined force in April.
The military are “on a mission to protect mankind,” according to Ruto, and as neighbors, the future of the DRC is bound up with our own.
We won’t let any armed organizations, criminals, or terrorists prevent us from enjoying our shared wealth, he continued.
The group, which also consists of soldiers from Burundi, Uganda, and South Sudan, will be commanded by Kenya.
Earlier, the Congolese government invited Uganda and Burundi to send troops to the DRC.
As a result of Kinshasa’s objections to Kigali’s involvement in military operations within the DRC for allegedly backing M23 rebels who have been seizing towns, a Rwandan detachment will be stationed at the border.
