Vladivostok, Russia | BAZZUP | The Yars intercontinental ballistic missile system will be used in the extensive command-and-staff exercise that Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces have begun, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday.
Some 3,000 service members and about 300 pieces of military equipment will participate in the drill. The cohesion of the personnel carrying out their duties will be evaluated by a committee of the Strategic Missile Forces command, the ministry said in a statement.
According to the announcement, the practice will be attended by the Yars mobile launcher-equipped Omsk Missile Formation and the Novosibirsk Missile Formation.
It was further stated that the members of the Strategic Missile Forces will practice a variety of concealing techniques and defenses against contemporary aerial survey devices.
Russia’s strategic missile system, the RS-24 Yars, is a variant of the Topol-M missile and is equipped with a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile. According to reports, it can transport numerous nuclear weapons and has an operational range of up to 12,000 miles.
