MANCHESTER UNITED arrived at the Hyatt hotel this afternoon before of their FA Cup match against Aston Villa, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire were missing.
For their third-round match, the Red Devils will welcome their fellow Premier League team to Old Trafford this evening.
Ralf Rangnick’s troops arrived at the Hyatt this afternoon, several hours ahead of their scheduled departure for the Theatre of Dreams.
However, club legend Ronaldo and captain Maguire did not check into the opulent hotel with their teammates.
Their absences are unlikely to be cause for concern because neither man is believed to be injured.
They’ll most likely arrive to the hotel on their own later this afternoon.
United will be trying to put last week’s 1-0 loss to Wolves behind them in their match against Villa.
The defeat at Old Trafford emphasized the enormity of the task in front of temporary manager Rangnick.
Ronaldo has held crisis discussions with his agent Jorge Mendes as a result of the Red Devils’ dismal play.
“Cristiano is genuinely concerned about what is happening at United,” a source close to the Portuguese told SunSport.
“The squad is getting a lot of flak, and he’s well aware that he’s one of the leaders.”
“There are a lot of issues, and Cristiano is under a lot of stress as a result of the situation.”
“He is keen for his United move to be a success, but he is beginning to see how difficult it will be to win titles with the current squad.”
“Jorge came to meet him, and they spent some time talking about how things are going, what the difficulties are, how they may be fixed, and what the answers might be.”
“Nothing is off the table.”
CALL FOR MAGUIRE RALLYING
Captain Maguire has been disappointed by the team’s recent performances and has urged them to get back on track this evening.
“We’re disappointing the supporters,” he stated.
“Last year, this team came in second place. This year, we have a bigger and better group, so we need to play with the appropriate approach.
“We have a lot of big players on the team, and we have a lot of leaders.” I’m tired of repeating myself, but I can’t keep doing it. Starting Monday, we need to go for a proper run.
‘I’ve clearly seen a lot of criticism, and a lot of it is really justified. We get it, based on what fans and ex-players have said.
“A lot of it is justified, and we all bear a significant amount of responsibility, myself as captain as much as anyone, if not more.”
We have to start winning and playing together as a unit.”
