Prof Kanyeihamba will file a legal challenge to Museveni’s decision to abolish the right to bail for capital criminals.

Prof George Wilson Kanyeihamba (Rtd), a retired Supreme Court judge, is planning to file a petition opposing President Museveni’s decision to abolish the right to bail for capital convicts.

Kanyeihamba, through his lawyers, backed by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, claimed that the president no longer rules the country according to the law.

“I did this on my own volition, after discussing with my family.” “The NRM no longer administers Uganda by law, but by law and by weapons,” Kanyeihamba declared in a press conference on Monday morning.

If President Museveni wants to keep pursuing his agenda, he should first withdraw Uganda from all international treaties that provide bail around the world, according to the former judge.

President Museveni has said that alleged murderers cannot be released on bond because their victims have died.

“I will not accept the issuance of bond by police in circumstances like this,” the president declared. I’m going to talk to the Attorney General about how we can put an end to this insanity.”

However, a number of stakeholders, attorneys, and political analysts have slammed the action, claiming that the right to seek for bail is crucial.
