UNEB Investigates How 23 Students in Kakumiro Missed a Mathematics Exam

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has initiated an investigation into the circumstances behind the absence of 23 of 26 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates from Mpasana Primary School in the Kakumiro District on November 8, 2022.

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has initiated an investigation into the circumstances behind the absence of 23 of 26 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates from Mpasana Primary School in the Kakumiro District on November 8, 2022.

Before the tragic day, the students attended Christine Primary School, which lacked a registration number.

Christine registered the Mpasana Primary School students for their examinations.

On the day they were scheduled to take their exams, Mr. Pascal Asiimwe, director of St. Christine Primary School, agreed to return with a van to transport them to Mpasana Primary School.

He did not return, and he disconnected his known phone numbers.

The students elected to travel nearly 15 kilometers, arriving one hour and sixteen minutes late at Mpasana Primary.

They discovered that the Mathematics examination had already begun. The examination proctors disqualified them for tardiness.

Dan Odongo, executive secretary of the UNEB, stated in a letter dated 11 November that they have received the information from the field officers and are currently working with the District Education Officers.

“UNEB is meeting with District Education Officials to determine the reasons why the students failed the exams,” he stated.

He stated that the Board is scheduled a meeting with District Officials to discuss this issue, following which a suitable decision will be reached.
