The Uganda Law Society’s President, Pheona Nabasa Wall, has been re-elected.

Wall was re-elected unopposed with the majority of her executive members, including Angwech Dian, Vice President, Ritah Namakiika, Secretary, and Shane Gloria Masanase, Treasurer, at a reception hosted at the Mestil Hotel in Kampala. Wall is serving his second and last term as President of the Uganda Law Society, having been elected last year.

In an election presided over by Counsel George Omunyokol, Madia Jimmy was elected as a Council Member for the Northern Region, Chemsto Kubai for the Central Region, Franco Barakensi for the Western Region, and Martin Asingwire for the Eastern Region.

Moments after being re-elected, Wall promised to keep working hard to see that their mission is carried out. He promised the backing of parliament for the fraternity, to which he himself belongs.

A number of prizes were presented to lawyers and law companies for their meritorious work in the previous year during the occasion, which most lawyers could only attend digitally because to the current COVID-19 limitations on public gatherings.

Justice Kenneth Kakuru received the Distinguished Lifetime Service award, Human Rights Defender Geoffrey Turyamusiima received the Rising Star Honor of the Year, and Criminal Lawyer Anthony Wameli received the Criminal Lawyer of the Year award.

Others who received awards include Justice Musa Ssekaana, who received the Excellence from the Bench award, Alice Namuli, who received the Legal Service Innovation Award, Norah Matovu Winyi, who received the Excellence from the Bar award, and Dr. Christopher Mbaziira, who received the distinguished service in the promotion of legal education award.
