Petr Cech, the club’s mascot, announced on Monday that he was quitting Chelsea just days after Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly ignored his request to trade Romelu Lukaku.
Petr Cech, a symbol of Chelsea, shockingly left the Blues just days after urging Thomas Tuchel and the new club progressive system to retain Romelu Lukaku, a club record failure.
After hanging up his gloves at Stamford Bridge, Cech took a role as a specialist and execution guide, but the 40-year-old became the third defeat in seven days after Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskaia had just left the team after Todd Boehly’s takeover.
Cech’s departure has come as a surprise, even though Buck and Granovskaia was meant to continue right after Roman Abramovich left. According to a separate source from The Telegraph, the former shot-plug informed Boehly of his decision to resign in a group setting.
The new Blues co-owner was thrilled for Cech to stay on and support him during the current transfer window. Cech has been influential in a number of late transfer decisions.
Even though Cech had openly backed Lukaku to succeed this year just days earlier, he was adamant that his time at the club was ended. The Belgian striker struggled following his £97.5 million return to the Blues the previous summer and is now poised to reunite with Inter Milan on a season-long credit deal.
According to the report, Cech had also quietly urged the team to continue having faith in Lukaku and to “put in more effort to make the action work.” However, Tuchel and Boehly have decided to subcontract the super cash lemon and will only receive £7m from Inter, despite previously being granted much more of a say in the club’s transfer responsibilities.
When Cech learned about Lukaku’s recent activities, he commented, “I for one accept he will have an incredible season. Last year, we identified his potential strengths in order to position him for an early start.
However, regrettably, the prolonged injury he sustained during the game versus [Aston] Villa dialed all that back, and subsequently, he also had Covid.
“I believe we could see areas of strength for how is near the end of the season, when he was healthy and ready once more. I am confident he will do so soon and with significant advantages.
