Pep Guardiola’s Sacrifice for Victory: Why He Rejected Experience Bonus in Manchester City’s Premier League Title Hunt

Pep Guardiola has stated that Manchester City’s previous success in winning Premier League titles does not affect their present challenge against Arsenal. Despite winning four out of the last five Premier League titles, Guardiola acknowledges the difficulty of this season’s competition as they face a tough battle against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Currently, Arsenal are ahead of Manchester City by five points in the Premier League table. However, Manchester City briefly cut the gap to two points over the weekend by winning 3-0 against Fulham. Despite some people believing that Manchester City’s experience in previous Premier League title battles will give them an edge, Guardiola disagrees. After the team’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Guardiola argued that if experience was the key factor, then Manchester City would win the title every season.

“Listen, if experience works, the team who wins the previous season will win every single season. Experience in sport is a new challenge. Look, Liverpool lost today against Bournemouth. A few months ago, 9-0. Everything is so difficult,” said the Catalan coach.

“What they have done in the past, is the past. You have to do it again because football is unpredictable. Nobody expects many things to happen in football, the people take for granted and it is not the truth. So the reality is still we are there and this is the biggest”

Guardiola continued, “Today, the way we behaved in this typical winter game, at Selhurst Park always is difficult. The composure we played with, the few, few chances we conceded, the desire to win the game because we want to win the game, we want to be close to Arsenal – that is the best for my team.”

Manchester City have completed their Premier League fixtures before the international break and are preparing for their upcoming UEFA Champions League last-16 second-leg match against RB Leipzig, which is currently tied at 1-1.
