Pader NUSAF contractor accused of supplying blind cows
One of the beneficiaries, Simon Oroma Akecha, the Chairperson of Loyocak Animal Traction, admitted receiving a blind cow.
Three NUSAF III units in Pader district’s Pukor Sub-County have chastised a local contractor for supplying them with blind cows.
Loyocak Animal Traction, Abung Animal Traction, and Gangba Animal Traction, all in Pukor parish, Pukor Sub-County, are among the NUSAF III organizations apparently receiving blind cows. This herd of cows was delivered last month.
One of the beneficiaries, Simon Oroma Akecha, the Chairperson of Loyocak Animal Traction, admitted receiving a blind cow.
He said he alerted the District NUSAF Officer when he realized the cow he was given was blind, but no action was done.
He went on to say that the three NUSAF III organizations had all paid for the contractor, who had supplied 48 animals, including the blind one, at a cost of $40.8 million. Bosco Otto, a local contractor, rejected the charges, claiming that he was not notified about the situation with blind animals by group officials.
He stated he acquired all of his animals from within the district for Shs 850,000 because of the lockdown, and they were in good health, according to the veterinary report.
Opio Richard Ojwini, the Pukor Sub-County Chairperson, corroborated the account of the blind cows and demanded that the contractor be prosecuted.
The seven blind cows, he added, were among the animals assessed by the District Veterinary Officer’s office before being released to beneficiaries.
When approached for comment, Dr. Robert Okeny, the District Veterinary Officer, stated he was unaware of such a situation because no one had reported it to his office.
Anthony Toolanya, the District NUSAF Desk Officer and the focal point person in charge of NUSAF III, says he is unaware of any groups in Pukor Sub-County that have acquired blind animals.
