Over 20 people are killed when a bus transporting a choir and villagers crashes into a river. At least 23 people have drowned after a bus carrying guests to a wedding in Kenya collided with a flooded river.
The bus was swept away in video footage when the driver attempted to cross fast-flowing water over a bridge in the Enziu River, about 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.
The vehicle had been leased to convey members of the church choir.
According to local accounts, four of the dead were youngsters, and at least 12 people have been rescued.
However, the exact number of passengers on the bus at the time is unknown.
According to local news site the Standard, the driver was unfamiliar with the road and the river bridge in Mwingi, Kitui county.
Charity Ngilu, the governor of Kitui, said the “awful” event occurred on Saturday morning.
She went on to say that while 23 bodies had been retrieved, more were still trapped within the bus, and that recovery activities will continue on Sunday.
Many sections of Kenya have recently seen unusually strong rains, including drought-stricken areas where domestic and wild animals have died due to a shortage of grazing.
