Opposition Chief Whip survives mob in Jinja
On Saturday, Nambeshe, a Kampala resident on his way to Mbale, collided with an unidentified person at Namwezi on the Kampala-Jinja highway in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.
After knocking a person, the Chief Whip of the Opposition, John Baptist Nambeshe, was lynched by an irate mob.
On Saturday, Nambeshe, a Kampala resident on his way to Mbale, collided with an unidentified person at Namwezi on the Kampala-Jinja highway in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.
An eyewitness, Juma Kanamwangi, claims that when Nambeshe refused to stop, Boda Boda riders pursued him. The bicycles caught up with Nambeshe in a traffic bottleneck caused by another collision in Mbiiko’s Kisoga zone.
The mob smashed Nambeshe’s car and threatened to set it on fire if he did not leave.
Nambeshe was identified by National Unity Platform-NUP supporters and the police who rescued him, according to Jimmy Lwanga, the Njeru Municipality MP. He was then taken to the Njeru Police Station, where he gave a statement.
