NUP’s Balikuddembe withdraws his challenge to Kitatta’s election as chairman of the Lwengo LC5. A journalist

turned politician, Joseph Balikuddembe, has dropped his lawsuit challenging Ibrahim Kitatta’s election as the Lwengo district LC5 chairman.

Balikuddembe of the National Unity Platform, who finished third with 18,614 votes, contested Kitatta’s election, alleging fraud.

The petitioner, however, dropped the lawsuit on Tuesday, and Masaka High Court judge Esta Nambayo approved the plea to withdraw the case.

Lady Justice Nambayo concluded, “This petition is withdrawn with no directions as to costs.”

As a result, she ordered that each side cover their own costs in the case.

The Lwengo LC5 chairman, Ibrahim Kitatta, described the petition contesting his election as an attempt to steal the people’s choice, but underlined that justice had finally been delivered.

“God is a good God. The truth has won out. The people of Lwengo’s will, as proclaimed by the Electoral Commission, has been respected. The petitioner has withdrawn his bare and baseless petition. Court has been rescued from a frenzied and futile search for a fishing trip that was going nowhere. Let’s get back to work,” Kitatta stated.
