NUP is ready to seize power,” Mpuuga said.
"Museveni is at his lowest moment, and the NUP is ready to seize power," Mpuuga said.
“Museveni is at his lowest moment, and the NUP is ready to seize power,” Mpuuga said.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders have stated that they will not back down in their demand for complete accountability for human rights violations perpetrated against their members in the run-up to and after the 2021 general elections.
The leaders made the remarks during memorial prayers for Frank Ssenteza held in Kasanje in Nyendo Mukungwe division in Masaka district, led by Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga.
The bodyguard of then-presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, who is now the party’s president, was killed.
On December 28, 2020, he died in a car accident in Busega, Kampala district, during the final campaign.
Ssenteza didn’t die in vain, said Mpuuga, who represented Kyagulanyi, because he died a hero fighting for a just cause.
“The fact that those who murdered Frank and several of our comrades in Arua in 2018 were never tried, but our MPs, Hon Ssegirinya and Hon Allan Ssewanyana, were jailed on made up accusations speaks to Museveni’s state of bewilderment,” he stated.
Mpuuga pointed out that brutality is a symptom of fragility, and President Museveni’s regime’s brutality demonstrates how vulnerable he has become, adding that he is at his most vulnerable.
He asked NUP leaders to set an example in their service to the party and the country as a whole in order to free Ugandans from President Museveni’s grip as soon as feasible.
“We must devote ourselves to leading these young people because they require our leadership.” Let us be open and honest with them as leaders. We need to understand their goals, and we must always give them hope that one day we will be able to achieve them.
